Our Love

There were many failed attempts by Marc’s family to match him up with mediterranean girls by just randomly messaging them on Facebook, as can be imagined this never worked as it gave all recipients of these random messages weirdo vibes.

In early October 2019 a mutual close family friend named George Saleme spoke to Anthony Yazbek, Marc’s father, about a certain young Lebanese girl called Rita, that Marc should contact. This time to save certain embarrassment and rejection Marc insisted that George first speak to Fares and Randa Salameh, Rita’s parents, about the possibility of talking to each other, a quick vetting of Marc’s Facebook profile was done by Rita before she gave her parents the go ahead to George that Marc can make contact.

Marc and Rita started talking in October 2019. Before you think the rest is history keep on reading...

Chatting back and forth quite a lot seemed to be going well or so thought Marc.

Marc asked Rita if he could come visit her in Sannieshof to meet in person and have a coffee together, but Rita continually avoided the subject.

The chatting back and forth lasted for about a month and a half before Rita ghosted Marc with no explanation or reason as to why.

Marc thought this was yet another embarrassing failed attempt at contacting an absolute stranger.

Marc kept sending Rita birthday messages on her birthday and that was something Rita really appreciated.

More than two years later in January 2022, Rita changed her Facebook profile to say that she had moved to Johannesburg. Marc saw this and commented on Rita’s post to say “Welcome ”.

That made Rita’s heart melt and that’s when Rita messaged Marc to ask if he would like to meet in person seeing that both of them are in Gauteng.

Marc promptly replied saying that he would like that and they arranged to meet on a Saturday on the 26th of February in person at Greenstone mall.

Marc asked Rita where she would like to meet in the mall and Rita opted for Panarottis.

When Marc asked Rita why she chose Panarottis, she joked and said because Panarottis is Italian, just like you.

Now we can say the rest is history…….

Marc and Rita stayed in contact and had their first official date on Rita’s birthday on the 10th of March. Marc surprised Rita with a bouquet of flowers, speckled eggs, a pink unicorn stuffed animal and a romantic dinner. Everything Rita could ever wish for, she thought Marc was so romantic.

For the whole of 2022 Marc and Rita stayed in contact and Marc would go visit Rita in Greenstone about once a week.

In January 2023 Marc went to Italy for a holiday and business, upon his return on the 1st February 2023 Marc asked Rita to officially be his girlfriend. He asked her by gifting her a special bracelet he bought her while in Italy.

On the 20th of September Marc and Rita went to France to see the rugby world cup, Rita was lead to believe that this was the only reason for the trip, but little did she know what was actually happening, wink wink.

On the 28th of September 2023 at 08:00 in the morning, Marc proposed to Rita on the stairs of the Trocadero, in front of the Eiffel Tower. Marc planned a photoshoot for Rita and asked a professional photographer to capture the whole thing. Rita was not expecting it at all. Her answer to Marc when he proposed was “easiest yes” and she started crying.
